Bees are threatened by toxins, pesticides, diseases and a changing agricultural landscape that makes it harder for them to find food. Without bees as pollinators, we would miss out on many foods, especially fruits and vegetables.
When bees collect pollen and nectar to make honey, they also pollinate the flowers they visit. Pollination is absolutely necessary for the formation of seeds, fruits and vegetables.
Five simple tips on how you can help our dear bees:
1. Build a bee hotel in your garden or on your balcony. Bees need to find places in nature where they can build their nests.
2. Don't clean up the whole garden. Leave parts of your garden undisturbed and clutter-free to create a protected environment for the bees. Flower shops sell ready-made seed packets with meadow mixes that bees like.
3. Plant plants in your garden that bees need. Marigolds, tagetes, marigolds, and herbs like thyme, lavender, oregano, and sage are examples of good plants.
4. Make your lawn more bee-friendly by mowing only parts of it and less often. Dandelions and daisies are treats for bees.
5. Last but not least. Do not use pesticides and insecticides.
