During holidays, however, you can sleep without having to feel guilty. But what is there to feel guilty about? The fact that the body wants to recover in order to feel good? There is some kind of prestige in waking up early, jumping out of bed and being super alert. The earlier you wake up, the better you are as a person, almost. I don't care about that at all these days.
I sleep as long as I can and a lot. For me, sleep is a super important need and I have understood that it affects me mentally and physically. When we sleep, the body starts working and cleanses itself of toxins. The skin on the face works hard to draw out various accumulations of toxins and fluid to optimize the resistance for the day that will strengthen itself. With age, the cleansing process becomes a little slower and it becomes more visible when we haven't slept properly. I can feel that my face can now take about 2 hours to unfold to "normal" haha! Some days it is swollen all the time especially if I've been partying. It becomes visible. That's why I make sure to sleep as much as I can as soon as I get the chance.
Guess I was overjoyed when I listened to science news on P1 and they told me about a Swedish study that shows that you can actually sleep to catch up on lost sleep and how the connection between sleep and aging is clear. We should eat healthily and exercise to stay healthy. As an extension of this, I see sleep as a natural element to take care of as much as possible! It is the whole useful and important recovery that allows us to both exercise and absorb nutrients. Everything is connected.
No wonder the feeling of getting sleepy and being able to crawl into bed and sleep is so nice and appealing. When you finally succumb to the sleep hormones secreted in your body and that moment when you snuggle into the pillow and under the covers... It can be the best thing there is to surrender yourself to the great soft sleep.
