In the spring of 2017, I stopped drinking coffee and tea with caffeine. I dislike feeling like I "have to do" something and my coffee drinking was a real must. The process of quitting coffee went very well. I barely thought about it. It should be added that I drank between 5-8 cups a day... I have not experienced that I have had sleep problems, but what happened now was a huge change for me. After a week without caffeine, I fell asleep the second I put my head on the pillow. I woke up wide awake and alert around 5:30 every morning and it was completely impossible to fall back asleep. If the effect had lasted for a short while, I would not have been so overwhelmed. The effect is completely unchanged after almost six months and for me it is clear - decaffeinated is here to stay.
Winter is almost here and I love drinking a good tea. Here are some of the blends I make when I'm in the DIY mood and don't buy decaf on the health food store.
Soothing evening tea with lemon balmTake 1 tablespoon of dried lemon balm or 5–6 fresh leaves, put them in a cup and pour hot water over them. Let it steep for about 10 minutes, strain and drink.
Detox with Dandelion - diuretic and super tastyBring just under 2 deciliters of water to the boil in a saucepan. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add 2–3 tender dandelion leaves and a small piece of washed and peeled dandelion root to the water. Let steep for about 10 minutes, strain and drink.
Invigorating tea with MintPeppermint is good to use as a base when making herbal tea. It is good to mix with other herbs such as sage or lemon balm. But it is also good to use it alone. Take 5 fresh leaves, put them in a teacup and pour over 2 deciliters of hot water. Let it steep for 5–10 minutes.
Birch leaf tea with LemonTake 2 tsp - 3 birch leaves fresh or dried to 2-3 dl boiling water. Let steep for at least 5 minutes! Strain and drink! Feel free to squeeze fresh lemon juice in as a flavor enhancer! NOTE! However, should not be drunk as evening tea as it is diuretic.
