This small volcanic island is inhabited by about 200 people and there are no cars or roads. The means of transport used to carry your things up the steep stairs are donkeys haha. There is only one restaurant on the island. We will spend about a week with each other and just enjoy friendship, views, food and beautiful views en masse! No stress about seeing sights or shopping. No stress at all. Just peace and time. Time to socialize. Time to be alone in your thoughts while looking out over the sea.
We fly to Palermo and then take the catamaran to Alicudi. This small island has been noticed by both BBC CNN and other major media precisely for being a small place on earth where tourism is not given the opportunity to spread and explode. It can be the nice place it is, simply. Here, the good old lira still applies and there are no ATMs at all. You have to calculate in advance how much cash you will have to spend.
The whole of Alicudi is described as a gym session or mini Himalayas where you are constantly climbing. Dress shoes and flip flops are just to be forgotten. The tip is to bring real trekking shoes. The mobile network is apparently quite shaky so there probably won't be any Insta stories. Shielded and isolated is what awaits. I'm so looking forward to experiencing this peaceful holiday trip completely free from a lot of must-do's that need to be done.
